Confronting Plague through Literature: New Perspectives on an Old Themeby Professor Christa Jansohn (Otto-Friedrich University, Bamberg)

Abstract
seminar posterThis talk will deal with the plague metaphor from the bubonic plague to HIV/ AIDS. It will highlight a number of lesser known and partly unpublished texts, in order to point out some new possibilities of investigation and opportunities for further research. These new texts, it is hoped, will not confirm fixed concepts about the perennial and often simplified and simplifying ideas about plague; rather, they will invite to think critically about and possibly help change our attitudes to mortal diseases and at the same time give a more accurate, less reductive view of plague-writing.

The event is co-organised in conjunction with the School of English, HKU
